Best Places to Shop in Boston
If you are visiting Boston for the first time, don’t expect to be able to navigate your way to the city’s shopping destinations on your own. Within 10 minutes, you’ll be lost. But don’t worry. Chances are you’re not far from a great place to shop! As the largest city in Massachusetts and all of New England, with a metro area of around 4.5 million people and thousands of college students, the Boston area is home to several fantastic shopping destinations.
Here are a few of our favorite places to shop in Boston…
The retail destination that is certain to inspire the highest degree of label lust in all of Boston is none other than Copley Place located just off the Mass Turnpike. Upscale fashion favorites like Neiman Marcus, Barneys New York, Tiffany & Co., Jimmy Choo, Salvatore Ferragamo, David Yurman, A|X Armani Exchange, Louis Vuitton, Emporio Armani, Christian Dior, Burberry, and BCBGMAXAZRIA, all call Copley Place home. Not enough labels for your sophisticated taste? Head over to Newbury Street, Boston’s most fashionable neighborhood. Take a stroll along Newbury Street and you’ll run into the likes of Marc Jacobs, Chanel Boutique, Burberry, Juicy Couture, Betsey Johnson and Nanette Lepore, just to name a few. In Boston’s Back Bay area along Boylston St. is where you’ll find The Shops at Prudential Center. Another one of Boston’s fabulous shopping destinations. The Shops at Prudential Center features stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord & Taylor, as well as 75 other distinctive shops and restaurants. Shopping among the high-end labels is certainly fun, but in order to get the true taste of Boston’s historic past, you’ll want to check out historic Faneuil Hall Marketplace located along The Freedom Trail. It’s touristy, but worth checking out the local boutiques housed within, along with some 14 restaurants and pubs.
Just across the Charles River in the city of Cambridge is where you’ll find the CambridgeSide Galleria, as much a shopping destination as it is a lovely place to stroll, dine and simply enjoy a day or evening out. CambridgeSide Galleria is filled with over 120 popular stores and restaurants, including retailers like Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, The Children’s Place, and Sephora.
Head south of Boston to the suburb of Braintree MA, and you’ll find the magnificent South Shore Plaza Mall. Home to some 180 stores including fashion favorites like Coach, H&M, Lord & Taylor, and Nordstrom. Go west of Boston to the suburb of Natick MA, and follow the line-up of cars heading over to the Natick Collection. The Natick Collection is a huge mall with 1.7 million square feet of shopping space and around 270 stores like Lord & Taylor, Macy’s, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus.
Rounding out the list of the Boston area’s top shopping malls and destinations is the Chestnut Hill Mall, located in the affluent Chestnut Hill suburb. The Chestnut Hill Mall is home to popular stores like Bloomingdale’s, Coach, Eileen Fisher, Kate Spade, Brooks Brothers, Gymboree, and Crate & Barrel. Northwest of Boston in the suburb of Burlington, is where you’ll find the popular Burlington Mall. Home to over 185 stores including Lord & Taylor, Macy’s, and Nordstrom. The Northshore Mall in Peabody, MA, located northeast of Boston is one of New England’s largest malls. Here you can shop at stores like Macy’s, Nordstrom, Coach, The Disney Store, Hollister, Sephora and many others. Head west of Boston to the suburb of Marlborough, and you’re likely to run into the popular Solomon Pond Mall. Home to retail favorites like Ann Taylor, LOFT, Bare Escentuals, Banana Republic, Chico’s, Coach, Coldwater Creek, and Forever 21. Hopping aboard the open-air mall trend are the Derby Street Shoppes in Hingham, located southeast of Boston and Legacy Place in Dedham, located southwest of Boston. Both malls are fantastic outdoor destinations with a great selection of traditional open-air favorite retailers and restaurants.
Located north of Boston about 40 miles in the great state of New Hampshire are 2 more malls worth exploring, both popular shopping destinations for area residents. The Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua, NH is home to some 130 popular store brands including Coach, Sephora, Banana Republic and more. And the Mall at Rockingham Park in Salem, holding court as the largest mall in New Hampshire, features stores like Banana Republic, H&M, J. Crew, Motherhood Maternity, Victoria’s Secret, and Forever 21.
And for outlet mall aficionados, there’s the Wrentham Village Premium Outlets located southwest of Boston in the city of Wrentham. This mall is home to all the traditional outlet mall favorites, including Banana Republic, Barneys New York, Burberry, Coach, Cole Haan, Elie Tahari, Hugo Boss, J.Crew, Kenneth Cole, and more.
