The primary role or job function of a Retail Store Manager is to oversee and manage all of the activities of a retail store’s operation. This may include launching sales promotions, monitoring sales and maintaining inventory levels, understanding where to place product and how to price it, managing staff, working with brand representatives and much more. Basically, retail store managers in the fashion industry are responsible for implementing the company’s marketing and sales plans while ensuring the efficient operation of sales, operations, and administration within the store. Store management is responsible for the overall success of the store. From a store manager position, a successful individual can move up the ladder to district or area director and eventually a national or global director of retail operations.



Most Store Managers and above hold a bachelor’s degree in merchandising, business or retail management. Experience as a sales associate is usually required.



The Store Manager manages retail store operations and supervises approximately two to seven Co-Sales Managers and full time/part time associates. Must possess the ability to:


Attract, hire, develop, inspire, and retain top talent
Coach, develop and maximize the success of all Associates
Maximize sales potential by coaching Associate behaviors on the sales floor and in the back room (Maximize Customer Sales Lead (CSL))
Build a team that works well based on the needs of the Store
Recruit, hire and staff
Ensure training of the Associate team
Succession planning and retain top talent


Analyze the business and create/communicate clear action plans that optimize results and ensure effective execution of all operational activities

Additional Requirements:
Three to five years previous store management experience including responsibility for annual sales volume of $1.5 million plus
Proven ability to increase sales and store profitability
Proven ability to network, recruit, interview, train, develop and promote associates
Ability to travel periodically, as needed for meetings
Ability to move medium to large items weighing up to 50 pounds
