Allocator Careers Fashion Industry

Interested in a career as an Allocator? The primary role or job function of an Allocator in the world of fashion is to plan and manage merchandise deliveries which buyers order from vendors for retail store distribution. This includes arranging for transportation to the various retail outlets, managing product inventory in store and in the warehouse, and fulfilling individual store merchandise needs.


Most Allocators hold a bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising, business finance, or a related field, along with 2 or more years relevant work experience in the field.




  • Responsible for all allocations and weekly replenishment to the stores
  • Analyzing sales on a weekly basis in order to help determine sales opportunities and risks
  • Manage store and department sales curves to ensure proper size runs and quantities are sent out to stores
  • Continually collaborating with Buying and Planning team in order to maintain store assortments while maximizing inventory productivity
  • Maintain bulk orders between retail and wholesale systems
  • Analyze category and size selling by store and make necessary recommendations to buyer/planner
  • Ensure stores have proper inventory to achieve sales plans
  • Create initial new store assortment plans to ensure the store meets both capacity and sales plans
  • Develop supply strategies to minimize stock outs
  • Weekly analysis/reports, to maximize sales opportunities and limit markdown risks
  • Create ad hoc reporting as needed to drive allocation and business strategies
  • Monitor timing of seasonal trends in stores
  • Work closely with store managers, merchandising, visual, store operations and warehouse
  • Proficient with retail systems, Excel and retail math
  • Be able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Previous Allocation or Store Planning preferred
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Supply Chain Department and Distribution Center
  • Analyze size selling at store level and revise buys to reflect current trends.
  • Assist in seasonal buy planning process by creating buy worksheets with statistical data
  • Maximize the sales of best sellers by maintaining optimum inventory levels
  • Develop and publish allocation recap by week, by store
  • Meet daily, weekly and monthly with departmental merchants to review by store merchandise needs and trends to identify product opportunities or liabilities



  • Solid knowledge of allocation principles and retail math
  • Knowledge of company product desired
  • 3 – 5 years of related experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills to include Excel and other relevant retail applications
  • Ability to collaborate within a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in KWI, SAP not required but preferred
